Our Actions for Climate Change

What is Climate Change?

Climate change is defined as a long-term shift in temperatures and weather patterns. This shift is primarily due to greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide and methane, generated by human activities like using gasoline for driving, cutting down forests, and agricultural operations.

How Africa is Impacted?

Despite its low contribution to greenhouse gas emissions, Africa is the most vulnerable continent to the impacts of climate change. Food security, GDP, and employment in Africa largely depend on weather-sensitive activities such as rain-fed agriculture, herding, and fishing.

Solutions and Actions by NJO Foundation Africa

The NJO Foundation Africa’s actions against climate change are based on the recommendations of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which emphasize cutting emissions, adapting to climate impacts, and financing the necessary adjustments.

Through its agricultural project, the foundation aims to support farmers on their journey towards sustainability by providing training on water conservation techniques and promoting sustainable farming practices that reduce carbon footprints.

Moreover, with its education program, the foundation seeks to engage youth in climate action through environmental clubs, competitions, and mentorship in green careers. The NJO Foundation Africa can also partner with schools to educate students on the importance of trees and involve them in tree-planting activities.

Finally, the outreach program can provide solar-powered devices to households lacking access to electricity and support the development of climate-resilient infrastructure, such as flood-resistant housing and sustainable irrigation or rainwater harvesting systems.
